Calvary Chapel Street Kids Progect

Calvary chapel is one of the churches in the heart of Kampala centre. They have a scheme for street children every Saturday were they teach them the gospel. We have held 5 outreach sessions with them senesce August. I have honestly never been so blessed to be in Uganda, seeing children that I know use drugs to help them get through life become active in playing sports in our program was touching. We are now looking forwards to 2010 were we look to more this project on even more from working with 40 children to 100 children by the end of the year.

Follow Up Visit Around Uganda After The ALC

From the 2nd-10th June Myself and Ben Thomas a volunteer who came out to Uganda for two months visited the 6 districts outside of Kampala that we work in, Wakiso, Entebbe, Mukono, Jinja, Mbarara, Masaka. This was an eye opening trip that helped us see the future potential of KSM in these districts and all so how individual projects have benefited so far from KSM trainings. Entebbe, Wakiso, Mukono are the newest places we have reached out to. Many delegates came from these districts to our ALC, Entebbe worship centre has sense brought in the KSM model and is teaching around 80 children weekly.

Jinja, Mbarara and Masaka were the first three districts we moved into and sense Mbarara has shown to be flourishing especially one project Juna Amagara primary school, sense the annual conference they have introduced and hour each day for sports. The head teacher told us the relationship with teachers and pupils has become much closer, as sports has opened up a new door for the gospel to reach there children. In Jinja doors were opened to 5 new church’s all having no less than 200 children each who were excited by the oppertunities of sports ministry we brought to them.

2009 Annual Conference

During the Middle of May 2009 we had a fantastic training held at the National Council of Sports in Kampala a fantastic venue. 200 Delegates attended the 3 day training which was lead by a mixed team from Uganda, England, and Botswona.

Idudi Mission Trip

Idudi is a village in east Uganda close to the border of Kenya. I had the priviledge of joining a team from Youth For Christ being invited by my close colegue Mathias Mulumba to join him in reaching out to children we found on the local fields. Idudi was my first experience of real village life in Uganda, sleeping in a small brick room that wasn’t full complete allowing the rats to come in and out at the leisure.

Now my first encountered of the true Africa experience occurred as I was on the way to checking out a local field with Mathias and the local yfc worker. As we walked out I started feeling some bites on my legs, slapping my legs thinking it was only a Mosquito there was mor an more. I roled up my jeans to find no less than 30 Arms ants biting me. I started running like you do the a toilet hut at the far end of the field throing my clothes of Mathias laughing away as he picked the ants out of my jeans and I picked them off my leg. They were so strong they srew blood in seconds. After clearing up the incident I walked back out to a cheer from the youth’s playing football on the field, it must have been funny for them.

The next day we went out to a local field and had a great time playing with around 200 children. We had no sports equipment but found some sticks and rocks an played a game called awana (basically a massive realy race). As the rain came we all ran and cramed into a small classroom children sitting on each others laps staring and listening to us telling them the good news. I was amazing seeing children that had nothing just being so happy and full of smiles. We played some fun chanting and singing games as the rest of the team came to pick me and Mathias up. I left humbled and blessed to have spent some time with such amazing children.

Travels So Far

Over the last year I have been so lucky to travel around the country sharing the our Ministry with. The map highlights all the places we are working in so far. The two in Black are mission trips I have gone on with Youth for Christ. The others highlighted in red our the specific areas KSM works at in Uganda.

Kivulu Slum Boys

When I first arrived in Uganda for two weeks I worked with Mathias in Bat Valley where Mathias had team football teams aged 8-12 and 13-16. All of these children came from the local slum next to the field. Living in poor conditions but full of smiles, a pleasure to be with. Six of these boys became leader in this project helping out in the coaching and sharing of the gospel, such a privilege to see.

Emmanuel Manishimwe

Emmanuel in the middle of this picture is the National director of Kings Sports Ministry Uganda. A real committed leader who has been so influential in the huge growth of KSM Ministry this year. Along side him Mathias on the left and Sam Oyirwoth on the right is the leader of the core team how travel around Uganda helping me lead trainings.

Mr Mathias Mulumba

Mathias Mulumba is my closest friend, college and flatmate. Mathias is my number two couldn’t have done what I did without him working along side me this year
