"SUITE UP"

TIME TO HIT THE ROAD ONCE AGAIN
"BUT THIS TIME WEDDING BELLS ARE IN THE AIR"

Well 6am tomorrow morning I will be heading off to the deep south of Kisoro for the wedding. As it turns out i have been asked to be a groomsman which is very exciting and a big privilege for me. The wedding is in the village and a new area I have been before I have been told it is hilly and the mountains are amazing. As you can see I have got a new suite for the occasion and will defiantly be the only white guy at the wedding, "talk about standing out ekkkkk" haha will be great fun.

TIME FOR SOME TRAVELING

On 25th March i will be travelling for 4 days down to Kisoro District the home of my college Emmanuel. We are going for the wedding of Emmanuel brother. The district is world famous for having one of the largest amounts of Mount Gorillas left in the world. Sadly they are deep in the bush and my chances of seeing them are small. After visiting Kisoro on the 29th March i will be travelling for 3-4 days right up north to Murchison Falls National Park. A very good friend of mine from America James Wald is coming over to Uganda to buy land just on the River Nile to the left of the park. He has asked me to join him so I am sure we will have lots of fun in are Land Cruiser. Both places are new to me and i can hardly withhold my excitement, God is truly blessing me with these opportunities.

Kings Sports Ministry 1st Training of 2010

TRAINING FOR TRAINERS

Emmanuel, Francis, Laurence, Chris, Luke, Ivan, Doreen, James, Sam, Mable, Richard
Jankie, Derrick, Mathias

On the 13th and 14th March we held are first training of 2010. Weeks of preparation had gone into this two day training with a lot of excitment gathering from the KSMU National Office. The training was for 15 volunteers of projects signed as partners of ksm. The volunteers came from around the country upto Kampala. The training was called "Training of Trainers" as these leaders who have been training will sparedhead training in there district and other surrounding them as KSM moves out to hold 2 day training in 5-7 other districts later in ther year.

The training focused on a practical side was to give the leaders a solid understanding and practical experience of who to run a sports mnistry outreach. We had the morning in the class room then the afternoon in the field, it was an excited event as we were launch a brand new project at the same time

Very important part of the train was teaching the art of preperation. 1 solid hour planning and practising what we were going to do later in the field gave the team a clear understanding of how easy it is to plan and how effective the results can be. Left - two groups planning on focused on the sports the other on the sit-down bible teaching. Right - practising the bible story skit

In the morning we had challenged one group of leaders to create “sports session plans” including: aim, skill, drill and game and the other group to create a sit-down including Fun games, songs, memory verse, bible story skit and life-skill talk. It was now time to put there planning and preparation into practise as we headed to the field.

On day two of the training we had a treat for 150 children as they received an orange kings foundation T-shirt. You can see in the picture above the children in a large circle doing a warm-up. The other picture is my good college Mathias Mulumba leading a Hockey Session alongside myself during the outreach.

After the sports we went for the sit-down program. On the Sunday I had the pleasure of playing Jesus as we acted out Jesus crucifixion on the cross; our topic for the day was “Gods Love for You”

The training was a huge success over the last two year we have held many trainings but I really feel this was our best yet. We had few leader but chose them wisely and I am just excited to see how there projects go throughout the rest of the year. Also looking forwards to joining up with each other them in there respective districts as we use these leaders to train hundreds more.

TIME TO RAISE SOME MONEY!!!

Kings Sports Ministry: PA System

Last week we became the proud owners of a new hi-tech PA System. The aim is to loan the system out for conferences or event by other organisations or individuals in order to raise money for ksm. We are hoping the project will kick off in early April and have high expectations of making good money through this scheme. KSM staff and volunteers are going to be trained in the running of the equipment which is also a great opportunity for them to learn and make some money as well.

At the moment we heavily rely on our founding organisation "The Kings Foundation" based in the UK for are financial support. KSM long term plan is to become a fully sustainable charitable organisation, full supported financially by Uganda.

THE WORLD FAMOUS KASUBI TOMBS WERE LAST NIGHT BURNT DOWN

A sad day for all Buganda People as last night the tombs of the former king's of Buganda Burnt down.

Buganda is the main tribe of Central Uganda and the Capital City Kampala. These days Kingdoms are not as much in control of the country but the people are still very passionate about there culture with the kabaka the King of Buganda today stil an important part of the people.

Situated on a hill within Kampala, the site is an active religious place in buganda Kingdom.

As a burial fround for four kins, it is a religious centre for the royal family, a place where the Kabaka and representatives frequently carry out rituals.

It is also an outstanding example of traditional Ganda architecture and an excpetional testimony of the living ganda traditions. For Uganda the site represented an important symbol of its history and culture. The tombs were listed as a UNESCO world heritage site in 2001.

The police were alerted about the fire at 8.50pm. However, attempts by fire brigade to reach the site were hampered by a riotous crowd.

Please pray that there is peace in Kampala over the next couple of days as police try to find out what happened, with it being such an important symbol for Buganda this could lead to angry riots which wouldnt be good for Uganda.

Last Saturday i swopped the fun and games with the children to focus on the leaders. Kings Sports Ministry lloks to use sports to develop children and help share the gospel. As both of there projects are 95% boys 1 picked teo fun energetic sports to coach to the leaders ports "Flag Football" which is a childrens version of american football and "Hockey".

PLEASE PRAY FOR UGANDA AFTER AN AVALANCHE DESTROYS A WHOLE VILLAGE

AVALANCHE DISASTER IN UGANDA KILLS 300 PEOPLE
AND LEAVES THOUSANDS HOMELESS

Some of the worst rains and flooding in recent years to strike eastern Uganda have triggered a massive landslide that has left thousands of people homeless. Devastating mudslides from Mount Elgon near the Uganda-Kenya border engulfed three villages in the Bududa district, 275 kilometers from the capital, Kampala. The flows spurred a quick response from government officials, who sent army engineers to the inundated region, and from the United Nations, which has supplied emergency tents and plastic sheeting.

But impassible roads have stymied the rescue effort. At least 87 bodies have been recovered, with some 300 people, including 100 students, still missing. U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) spokesperson Fatoumata Lejeune-Kaba says that until impaired gateways to the region become more accessible, the human toll will not be clear.

“In the district of Bududa, there are three villages that are completely under the mud. People have not been accounted for yet. The government is still carrying out assessment missions to find out how many they could possibly rescue, how many are missing, and how many are dead,” she advised.

Lejeune-Kaba says that the U.N.’s emergency relief role is a limited one that stems from its presence already in the region and its stockpile of usable supplies.

“Our involvement is purely on humanitarian grounds. We are already in Uganda. We have been helping refugees. We have been helping sometimes the internally displaced. And because this is an emergency, because we have stocks available, that is why we are getting involved. But this is not an area where UNHCR is normally active,” said Lejeune-Kaba.

Usual precipitation levels in January and February are quite low in Uganda in between customary rainy seasons. But this year, the El Nino cyclical weather phenomenon, that generates warm fronts from overheating ocean currents in the South Pacific halfway around the globe, also is fomenting relentless rains in eastern Uganda and locations in Kenya and Ethiopia. UNHCR spokesperson Lejeune-Kaba says Kampala officials are quite vigilant in responding to the daunting pressures posed by the turbulence.

The waters of eastern Uganda are known to flood in active rainy seasons. The 2010 flooding, reportedly sparked by El Nino, began after the end of the rainy season.

“The government was pretty quick in going to the affected areas. They can’t get heavy machinery in there to try, maybe, to rescue survivors. The rains are continuing. They are expected to last at least for another month. And so that compounds all the suffering, already being experienced by the population, who have lost all their properties. They have lost everything, probably family members as well,” she said.

The previous devastating floods to hit eastern Uganda two and a half years ago in September, 2007, uprooted 200,000 people and were also said to be a product of an El Nino cycle.

I love Uganda

Today i got to be with some of the collest kids alive. Back at Abaana Ministries Street Kids Program had around 60 kids today low number as there are many projects opening up around Kampala to help with all the street kids which is great news but we still feel they need to be at our project haha. We are looking to change days from a friday to a tuesday where there isnt much happening interms of organisations. Just a tactical move to help as many kids as we can.

Today we had the primary school who field we use share the pitch with us they were practising there marching for parades. was a hasal as of course our street kids found it very funny left, left, left, right, left was the common call for around 2 hours haha much fun. He did as best as we could but stil had a blessed time.

Tommorow the leader of Abaana plus some of ther older youth will join Calvary Chapel leaders in a fun day in the sports field where i am going to be teaching them some new sports that they can introduce to there program. Basically doing what i love best.
